Frequently Asked Questions

Why Pilates at TRB?

Why Pilates??!! The exercise method is so long standing and successful if taught correctly and passionately!  If you commit your body to us and Pilates and persevere through the initial learning period you WILL see results and have an improvement on your pain levels and feel stronger.

We love what we do, we specialize ONLY in Pilates , we teach movement to all populations day in and day out and have done now for 10 years.

Is there a difference between Clinical Pilates often held by a Physiotherapist, and Studio Pilates?

Clinical Pilates -as it is labeled by other health practitioners, is Pilates taught to the client addressing their particular needs often in a studio environment with Pilates equipment. Exercise prescription is based upon supportive research relevant to rehabilitation and improved outcomes.

Any Pilates studio that has instructors that are members of the Australian Pilates Method or the Pilates Alliance Australasia are:

  • Competent instructors who only specialize in movement therapy,

  • Who have to keep up their registration by participating in ongoing education and

  • Who base their exercise prescription on sound research supporting movement and best practice.

We at The Reformed Body pride ourselves on the specificity of our profession,  are highly trained in that specificity and have a level of recognition amongst other local health professionals for being the studio to attend if you have any postural deficiencies causing pain.

Why is it much cheaper to do Pilates in a gym?

Gyms and other service providers that run large class formats charge less.  You will not be individually supervised and you will not receive receive specific exercises aimed at improving YOUR pain. The class will be generic.

Will I lose weight or increase my cardiovascular fitness by doing Pilates?

You will not lose weight by doing Pilates alone, but you will see an increase in tone throughout the body. Pilates classes do not involve significant cardiovascular strain to improve the CV system.

Will I feel sore after a Pilates class?

You will use muscles in Pilates that you may not have used before, so it is common to feel them 24-72 hours after a class.

If you are starting Pilates and have been reasonably inactive or have poor spine health prior to doing so you may feel slight tenderness for the first 2-3 sessions. This is a normal reaction of the body if it is suddenly asked to move differently. This will subside after a short time.

How many classes per week do I need to do?

We recommend 1 to 2 sessions per week to discover the changes that increased core strength will give to your body.

What to bring to class?

Please be mindful of others and hygiene by bringing a hand towel and socks to each class.

How many classes will I need to do in total?

It will depend on how quickly you understand the principles of Pilates. If you only do 10 classes you will not see much improvement as you would have only just started to use the core well by then. Please discuss this further with an instructor.
